Instrumental Music Lessons

Students in grades 4th - 8th can take instrumental music lessons at OCS.  Both private and group lessons are available.  The sign up form can be found on the "Student Backpack".  In the past students have learned piano/keyboard, percussion, trumpet, trombone, flute, guitar, saxophone, ukulele... Welcome Back

We start the year with what do we learn in general music class, procedures, etc.  Here's just a basic list:     Music History - composers, music, instruments from Medieval to Present day          - 3B's, Music written for children, classical, jazz, pop, country, just to mention a few     Music notation - rhythm, pitch, harmony          -notes - quarter notes, half notes, rests...., ABCDEFG, chords,          - playing notes on instruments (guitar, bells, recorders, and rhythm instruments)     Terms - musical terms and what do they mean (rhythm, beat, meter, unison, harmony, metronome...)          - can we use terms to describe the music      Instruments, ensembles, famous musicians (past and present day)      Singing - Singing in unison, harmony, pitch, diction, tempo...      Performance - k-5 and some of our 6th-8th grade participate in 2 concerts every year.            -singing, moving and playing instruments Looking forward to a great year of music.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2018 is the date for the Oxford Central WINTER CONCERT.  Grades k-5th have already started working on the music.  The concert will include music for the season and the k-3rd grade students will be part of a presentation of the classic - "'Twas the Night Before Christmas".  Looking forward to great evening of music.

Jukebox Time Machine

THURSDAY, MAY 31ST!!!!!  6:30pm!!!!! Will be our spring concert.  The theme will be Jukebox Time Machine.  Students in grades k-5th grade will be singing songs from the 1940s-2000s.   Some of our 6th-8th graders will be involved as well, playing instruments and singing.   Looking forward to a great evening of music.

Jingle Bell Jukebox

-is the theme for this years December concert.  Students in grades k-5th have been busy preparing some holiday favorites.  I'm sure you'll recognize a lot of the songs.  Many of our 6th - 8th grade will be helping with the concert, singing, playing instruments and helping behind stage.  Mark your calendars - Wednesday, December 6th - 6:30pm!!!  See you then!!!
