Students in grades 4th - 8th can take instrumental music lessons at OCS.  Both private and group lessons are available.  The sign up form can be found on the "Student Backpack".  In the past students have learned piano/keyboard, percussion, trumpet, trombone, flute, guitar, saxophone, ukulele... Winter concert - Wednesday, December 11th. Snow date - Wednesday December 18th.

We start the year with what do we learn in general music class, procedures, etc.  Here's just a basic list:     Music History - composers, music, instruments from Medieval to Present day          - 3B's, Music written for children, classical, jazz, pop, country, just to mention a few     Music notation - rhythm, pitch, harmony          -notes - quarter notes, half notes, rests...., ABCDEFG, chords,          - playing notes on instruments (guitar, bells, recorders, and rhythm instruments)     Terms - musical terms and what do they mean (rhythm, beat, meter, unison, harmony, metronome...)          - can we use terms to describe the music      Instruments, ensembles, famous musicians (past and present day)      Singing - Singing in unison, harmony, pitch, diction, tempo...      Performance - k-5 and so...

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2018 is the date for the Oxford Central WINTER CONCERT.  Grades k-5th have already started working on the music.  The concert will include music for the season and the k-3rd grade students will be part of a presentation of the classic - "'Twas the Night Before Christmas".  Looking forward to great evening of music.

THURSDAY, MAY 31ST!!!!!  6:30pm!!!!! Will be our spring concert.  The theme will be Jukebox Time Machine.  Students in grades k-5th grade will be singing songs from the 1940s-2000s.   Some of our 6th-8th graders will be involved as well, playing instruments and singing.   Looking forward to a great evening of music.

-is the theme for this years December concert.  Students in grades k-5th have been busy preparing some holiday favorites.  I'm sure you'll recognize a lot of the songs.  Many of our 6th - 8th grade will be helping with the concert, singing, playing instruments and helping behind stage.  Mark your calendars - Wednesday, December 6th - 6:30pm!!!  See you then!!!

It's September!!!  So, we begin another year of music at OCS.  What's back - our concerts - and yes, we have the date for the winter concert - WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 6TH.  Save the date! Before and after school group instrumental lessons are available for grades 4th-8th.  (parents of younger students please contact me if you are interested).  The sign up forms can be found on the online "back pack".   The chrome books are new for the 5th grade and will be used at times for all 5th - 8th grade students during music class.   Have a great year!!!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 17th - 6pm - OCS Spring Concert.  The theme is CORRECT - Students in grades k-5 and those students in grades 6th - 8th that are participating should be there by 5:30pm.

I heard it's been 11years - possibly more since we have been able to do this -  OCS has sent 2 students to the 6th Grade All County Band.  The students sent to this have to be able to play a concert band instrument (woodwind, brass or percussion) and meet certain criteria - such as instrumental technique and an ability to read music.  The students selected to go are a part of the before/after school music lessons that we have here at OCS and had to work hard to not only meet to criteria to be invited but also, to learn music to spend a day with some of the best 6th grade instrumental students in the county and participate in a 100+ student ensemble for an evening concert.  CONGRATULATIONS!!!

YES!!!  We have a concert date!  Wednesday, May 17th.  All k-5 students as well as instrumental students and some of our 6th-8th graders.  SAVE THE DATE!

As we start 2017 the students are learning about the following: k- What is tempo? 1st grade - instruments, categories, sounds and appearance. 2nd grade - Mozart - music, life and times. 3rd grade - Ballads - (not to get confused with ballet) 4th grade - notation -this will be VERY important when playing recorders 5th grade - will be taking a detour to studying the 3B's.  Who are the 3B's??? 6th grade - are taking a very close look at percussion instruments. 7th grade - are creating some very challenging games that will be shared in a couple weeks - showing their knowledge of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music 8th grade - music careers. 

I have to admit - this years winter concert was one of my favorites.  The kids did an excellent job from the singing, to the instrumentalists to the stage crew.  Awesome job OCS students. And the music continues.  Presently k-3rd grade are learning about the ballet, "The Nutcracker", music by Peter I. Tchaikovsky.  It's a great time to hear the music and talk about what does a composer do as well as seeing the story.  4th grade is taking a closer look at the composer Tchaikovsky with facts about his life and music. 5th grade will be seeing how people celebrate with music in December.  What is December 26th?  Chanukah?  Songs? 6th grade just completed seeing the musical "Oliver".  During that time they studied different terms used to describe the music in the musical. 7th grade has been focusing on early music history (medieval, renaissance and baroque).  8th grade will be presenting their music career projects that they are just co...

Get READY.  The countdown to the OCS 2016 Winter Concert has begun.  Wednesday, December 7th at 6pm our students in kindergarten -5th grade will sing songs for the holiday/winter season.  Some of our 6th, 7th and 8th grade will also be singing, playing instruments and working behind the scenes.  Students should just dress nice (slacks, shirt, skirt, dress...)
