Happening Now

I have to admit - this years winter concert was one of my favorites.  The kids did an excellent job from the singing, to the instrumentalists to the stage crew.  Awesome job OCS students.

And the music continues.  Presently k-3rd grade are learning about the ballet, "The Nutcracker", music by Peter I. Tchaikovsky.  It's a great time to hear the music and talk about what does a composer do as well as seeing the story.  4th grade is taking a closer look at the composer Tchaikovsky with facts about his life and music.
5th grade will be seeing how people celebrate with music in December.  What is December 26th?  Chanukah?  Songs?
6th grade just completed seeing the musical "Oliver".  During that time they studied different terms used to describe the music in the musical.
7th grade has been focusing on early music history (medieval, renaissance and baroque).
8th grade will be presenting their music career projects that they are just completing as well as seeing a couple of online interviews of musicians and composers.
